Fiji customs strike

NZPA Suva Hundreds of incoming passengers at Nandi and Nausori airports are walking through Fiji Customs unchecked, because of a strike by Customs officers. The strike began on Tuesday after the breakdown of talks between the Public Service Commission, the Fiji Public Service Association, and the Ministry of Finance over job reclassifications and promotions for 47 officers.

Among passengers who went through Customs unchecked on Tuesday were 256 frorri a Continental Airlines DCIO flight froth the United States and 85 on an Air New Zealand flight. They simply picked up their luggage and walked out of the terminal.
