Coast oil probe approved
PA Wellington New Zealand Petroleum Company, Ltd, has been granted a petroleum prospecting licence for an area off the West Coast of the South Island. The Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) said yesterday that the licence was for five years from July 11. It provided for a work programme that included seismic work and the drilling of at least one test well. He said that the licenceholder’s affiliate company was Triton Oil and Gas Company of Dallas, Texas, an international exploration, development, and investment company. Petrocorp would not be associated with the project. The licence covered part of the area in which New Zealand Petroleum held licences previously.
