Aviation seminar
International aviation leaders will take a critical look at solutions to the twin concerns of energy and safety facing the industry when they meet in Christchurch in September. The three-day seminar, from September 15 to 18, is expected to attract more than 200 delegates from 35 countries, including representatives of the leading aircraft makers related technical and engineering firms, and international civil aviation authorities and airlines. Air New Zealand will be host for the event, the first time the International Air Safety Seminar has been held outside Europe and the United States. While several New Zealanders will contribute to the content of the seminar. the theme of which will be “The safe and ef-
ficient management of energy,” most of the 30 papers will be given by leading overseas aviation experts. At the awards banquet, when international contributions to aviation safeiv and heroism are honoured, a distinguished New Zealander, Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Lord Elworthy, will be the guest speaker. International airlines which will be represented among the contributors to t.te seminar include American Airlines, British, United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Western Airlines, and the Lockheed and Boeing aircraft companies. The Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) will speak at rhe opening of the seminar while the keynote address on the day will be given by Air New Zealand’s chief executive (Mr M. R. Davis).
