‘McPhail and Gadsby’
Sir, — So “Death of a Princess” is turned down since its screening might offend a comparative handful of Muslims, but we can be given a whole hour of sacrilegious buffoonery with no regard for the feelings of Christians. I am sure many hundreds would, like myself, be offended to see the Scriptures ridiculed, the sayings of Jesus lampooned, and solemn religious acts, for example the receiving of Holy Communion, made the subject of silly skits. I protest most emphatically and maintain that all responsible for this production should be ashamed of themselves. I may add that I am protesting officially to the Broadcasting Council and suggest that all who share my views write at once to Mr lan Cross, , chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation. His desk in Wellington should be flooded with complaints. —Yours, etc., CANON H. I. HOPKINS. July. 10, 1980.
