Qualifying system changed again
The A and B-grade qualifying system has been abolished by the Executive of the Trotting Conference. The new ■ regulations are subject to’ confirmation at the next meeting bf the executive in July. . ■ ■ ■ Pacers. will still have to qualify' : but the restriction affecting qualifying when the number of starters is below a certain level has been ; dropped. . Horses will qualify by winning inside the required time. The. second horse will also qualify: should , it better the required time by two seconds, and the-third horse
should it hotter the time by th~ee seconds. The executive felt that the B-grade system had outlived it; usefulness and, if clubs selected fields on form either at recognised trials or in races, present-day problems would be eliminated.
The executive considered a number of complaints concerning the selection of fields. It was decided that clubs be directed to use form, as the basis for the selection of fields. Provision is to be made in the regulations for’ penalties to be imposed on clubs failing to carry . out these requirements. •
