End-to-end success for Bottler

PA Palmerston North Bottler led all the way in his first race over ground to score an impressive win .in the Palmerston North; Handicap at Awapuni on Saturday.

The result was never in much doubt once Bottler got to the front after - about 400 m. .

He slipped away from his rivals near the home turn and kept going strongly through the heavy ground to win by three lengths from ,the ’favourite, Lord Hymac, which was well placed all the way but: could make, no real impression. '. • The little fancied Glenayr came with a good run from midfield to’finish third, with Viggen running on from the back for' fourth. Piako, which was never far away, battled on for fifth followed by Blue Defence, Father Loti and Sergio, which failed to race up to his second favouritism. ■

Gavade, in the hands of Bill Skelton, struck his favourite track conditions when he-scored a convincing win in the Stewards’ Handicap...

Skelton had the winner handily placed all the way and he kicked clear soon after turning for home. Gavade never looked like stopping and ran it out strongly to beat Kerdizo which ran on well after getting back in the running. Pastrol ran a gallant third and never gave up trying over the final part while The Vicar made up some ground to finish a fair fourth ahead, bf -Non. Dimenticar who came from hear the rear to- end up fifth. (T.A.B. CODE: MN) /-■ , Track heavy; weather fine.” ! RUAHINE HURDLES , $2500; 2600 m. 4/4 SIR DESMOND (3) 61.75 S.
