Joint clergy meeting

A joint diocesan meeting attended by 140 Roman Catholic and Anglican clergy in Christchurch yesterday was seen as “one step towards closer unity” among churches.

The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby) presided over the meeting.

They discussed areas of difference between Churches* such as ministry, authority* church government, and the Eucharist in worship. Bishop Pyatt emphasised that the meeting was noH meant as “an exclusive affair,” and that he hoped that; similar meetings with clergy of other denominations would be arranged soon.
