Fruit-juice industry prospers
PA Nelson The fruit-juice industry is prospering because of spiralling beer and spirits prices, according to several Nelson winemakers.
They believe there is a growing trend towards purchasing non-alcoholic drinks, such as pure fruit juices, instead of the traditional beer and spirits. Mrs W. J. Tait, of Noslen Wines, Ltd, said yesterday that fruit juices comprised “at least half’’ of her company’s annual production. "We have found the major growth of sales is in the non-alcoholic line,” she said. “More and more people are turning to fruit juices because they are cheaper and because of the health benefits.
The proprietor of Robinson Bros Winemakers (Mr T. Robinson) said his company now produced more than 45,000 litres of fruit juice a year. An Upper Moutere winemaker, Mr H, Seifried, also believes fruit juices are becoming increasingly popular.
