Essex Hospital closing
Sir, — I am appalled that once again vital issues concerning women’s health are being haggled over. The law states every woman is entitled to 14 days free medical care and the doctor of her choice. The present system- functioning at Christchurch Women’s Hospital makes this impossible, and many women are subjected to the indignity of attending ante-natal day clinics. There they suffer indifference, lack of continuity of doctors, and are also regarded rather insensitively as teaching objectsj The proposed closing of -Essex Hospital will further deny women the choice they are entitled to, and subject more of them to unsatisfactory and degrading treatment. I feel the North Canterbury Hospital Board has. to consider very carefully the facilities and choices it offers women, — Yours etc., JOSSI CRAIG. May 6, 1980,
