Sex education
Sir, — Sexual expression is essentially a private and intimate affair which should have its recognised nlace within the structure of families. Anyone distressed may voluntarily seek counsel privately. With the over-sexual-isation of our society through stimulating advertising. so-called entertainment in oublic nlaces and croup “education” in intimate behaviour, healthy attitudes towards the real purposes of sexual expression have been largely destroyed and tragedies have resulted throughout our society.
Privacy necessary to maintain intimacy has been confused with secretiveness due to shame and the educators’ cry has been that publicity and openness in the name of
“education” will cure all ills. Groups such as the Family Planning Association, Marriage Guidance and Parents’ Centres share a morally neutral, humanist philosophy in their “education” aims. Parents need to be cautious lest they or their children imbibe a philosophy which subtly destroys the delicate quality of privacy and affectionate intimacy surrounding all matters sexual. — Yours, etc., V.
