Death of Tito
Sir, —- The media in their praise of Marshall Tito and the usual animosity towards Russia should be reminded that Marshal Tito was rescued from almost certain captivity bv the Germans by a daring flight by a Russian pilot, Shornikov, who on June 4. 1944, flew into mountainous territory in Yugoslavia, landed on a makeshift strip and picked up Tito and his deputies and others and flew them to safety in Bari. Later they were taken to the Island of Vis where the Yugoslav headauarters continued to function. Such was the collapse of the Nazi attempt to behead the Yugoslav Army. The Russians lost countless men forcing the Germans from Yugoslavia and while so doing were, on November 7. 1944, mistakenly bombed bv American aircraft, inflicting casualties on them. — Yours, etc., E. COX. May 7, 1980. ’
