South Island Movement
Sir, — The irrevelances of the Prime Minister’s comments (“The Press,” May 6) about the South Island Movement are deliberately designed to obscure the real issue which is, representation. Until we get people to see that the prime cause of all our political and social differences stems from the absence of opportunities for democratic representation — for fair proportional representation in the governing of our affairs — we shall continue to be governed by the stultifying single party attitude that excludes so many people from their right to be effectively represented in government, and as your article about Professor Bates illustrates, deny so _ much talent from contributing toward the real potential of New Zealand. — Yours, etc., L. J. ROBINSON; May 6, 1980.
