No agreement at Firestone

No agreement resulted from discussions between the management and rubber workers at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Ltd, yesterday, after their week-long industrial dispute. The dispute ended on Sunday when both parties agreed to open discussions on all issues except the claim for a 38-hour week.

The works manager (Mr V. W. West) said yesterday’s meeting discussed the issues of “time in motion” service leave and accumulated shift

I leave being taken as annual leave. However, “no measure of agreement” was reached during the talks, Mr West said.

The Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union had completely dropped the' question of the 38-hour week, he said. It could be raised again during award negotiations or early next year.

Mr West said more meetings had. been arranged for Thursday, and normal work would continue in the meantime.
