N.Z. divers well down

NZPA-Reuter Fort Lauderdale, Florida New Zealand divers finished well down in the Hall of Fame International Diving meeting at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday. Ann Fargher took nineteenth place, Kay Cummings and Sue Bankier finished twenty-eighth. A 23-year-old Ohio State University diver, Carrie Irish Finneran, won the 3m springboard event and led an American sweep of the top positions. The United States women took the first four places.

Jennifer Chandler, the 1976 Olympic gold medallist in the event, finished second. Megan Neyer, a rising 17-year-old in second place until she missed two late dives, settled for the third spot. Christine Looke followed in fourth place. Beate Rothe, of West Germany, broke the U.S. domination by capturing fifth place. Twenty-eight divers from 17 countries competed in the eleventh annual meeting at the Swimming Hall of Fame. The Soviet Union was not invited this year.
