Commission to visit airports
PA Wellington The Commission of Inquiry into rescue and fire (services at international airI ports will visit New Zealland’s three main airports next month to see for itself the features and equipment referred to in earlier submissions.
Closing submissions in the inquiry started in Wellington yesterday and are expected to finish tomorrow. It is then up to the commission — comprising Captain J. S. Shephard, Mr D. A. Varley, and Mr L. G. Lythgoe — to finalise its . investigations and report back in November.
Captain Shephard told the inquiry that no new evidence would be presented at this stage, although clarification on some points .might later be called for.
I Final submissions will be heard from Air New Zealland, the New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association, the Coast Guard Federation, the Fire Service Commission, the Public Service Association, and the Ministry of Transport.
