Values strong for store calves

Aldington Market 1

The store-calf market at 1 Addington showed a great deal of strength yesterday. The yarding yesterday was 2937, compared with 1163 last week, but values generally remained firm although auctioneers found selling a little more difficult than in I previous weeks. Small heifers and an occasional line of light steers I were difficult to sell and were sometimes $lO below late rates. However, the bulk of the offering, which contained many tussock-bred calves, sold soundly. Exotic cattle provided the feature sales. A line of 93 Simmental steers from O. J. Osborne (Doyleston) made between $196 and $276, the second-best steer calf sale of the season. Mr .Osborne’s Simmental heifer calves made $l6B to $196. Another line of Simmental steer calves sold between $2ll and $222. The small early-weaned calves made from $5O to $9O and larger cull calves between $9O and $llO. .
