The Philippines

Sir, — After the last war the world was horrified to learn of the atrocities of the death and torture camps. We had no knowledge of the “holocaust” until it was too late. Today, with frequent reports of the brutal and inhumane practices employed by many governments to enforce their power, as in the excellent article on the present situation in the Philippines (“The Press,” April 8), we cannot say that we did not know. The silence of the Government and the people of New Zealand sanctions these evil deeds against mankind.—Yours, etc., DAVID CAMPBELL. April 8, 1980.
