Christchurch planning
Sir, —Citizens of Christchurch were easily aroused over a Hagley Park motorway, became indignant over a St Albans motorway, are incensed that Cranmer Square or Latimer Square could be quartered, alarmed that an Avonside expressway could be considered necessary, and Ruth East, in a consideration that the Christchurch City Council is trying to create a slum, does not consider it necessary to mention a proposed Lincoln Road expressway or is apparently unaware that the Waimairi County Council is also allowing industry to advance into residential areas of the poor working class although it ; shows a concern for “prestigious” residents when disallowing a bridge across the Wairarapa Stream, Fendalton. Christchurch is a divided city—the poor, and the rich. How many people who use motor vehicles really “give a damn.” — Yours, etc., , ROSIE WITTY. April 8, 1980. ■
