Helen’s Ridge scores

PA Invercargill Helen’s Ridge scored her sixth success and her fifth in open company, . when she courageously Won, the Gordons Handicap .first leg of the T.A.B. double on the third day- of the Riverton Racing Club’s Easter carnival yesterday. Helen’s Ridge, last successful at Tapanui in December, had run some fine races in the interim, including an un-

lucky third in the Invercargill Gold Cup. Will Bee reached the lead early in the run home but Helen’s Ridge, patiently handled by Kevin Morton, ran on better, yesterday to score by a long neck. Will Bee fought back solidly for second, a neck in front of Duguid, which looked a big danger when he tackled the leaders wide but on the track inside the last 200 m.

Deep Mystery, a length and a quarter away, was the best

of the others. Dee Why'gained his first success of the .season tvheri he outfinished Mr Charicles and Forest Gate in the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Farewell Handicap. Dee Why raced in the third line before mounting his run down the extreme outside of the track. Mr Charicles had his head in front for most of the run home, but Dee Wby, battled on well and wore him down to win by three-quar-ters of a length.
