Smart showing by No Regrets
No Regrets was the smartest of the two-year-olds on show at the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ qualifying trials at Addington Raceway yesterday. The El Patron-Baylight filly skipped away and settled in front. She made all the
running and sped over her| last 400 m in 30s to beat the Welcome Stakes candidate, Idle Along, comfortably by a length and a half, with No Excuse closing strongly for third. Noßegrets paced the journey iri '2min 42.75. ' The second juvenile trial [for colts and geldings was won in front by Golden Prince (Schell Hanover— Princess Aurora) a youngster in Trevor Thompson’s team.
Golden Prince lasted it out well to beat Revelry (Timely Knight—Regal Belmer). Winning Double (Out To Win— Fleuretta) was a fastfinishing third, half a head away.
Tribute showed sharp speed to be the fastest qualifiers amongst the pacers.
Tribute finished well to wear down the tearaway pacemaker, Noble Armbro, and win going away by four and a half lengths in a smart 3min 29.25.
Great Step (Bachelor Star —Goldstep) finished solidly to qualify in the first pacers heat in 3min 31s, beating Looking Glass by four and a half lengths. .
- Kazbek closed . well to narrowly beat. Hanover Fire and Scotch Cloud to qualify in the third pacers trial in 3min 33.25.
. Roydon Albatross led throughout • and came his uast 800 m in 60.5, the last 400 m in 30s to qualify well in the fifth pacers heat. The American bred Albatross — Poppy Butler three-year-old held on well by a length in 3min 30.75, from Shoreline, another qualifier in 3min 30.&3.
Mister Bill was an impressive qualifier in the trotter’s heat winning by three lengths in 3min 39.45, from Doc’s Song and Braemome. Best Western skipped away to an early lead and qualified A-grade in 3min 30.55.? i
