New hospital head

A Christchurch thoracic surgeon, Mr H. T. Thompson, has been appointed the new medical superintendent of The- Princess Margaret Hospital. Mr Thompson has been a surgeon at the hospital since it opened in 1959, and has been the acting medical superintendent since Dr Margaret Guthrie left last May to take up a senior post with the Department of Health in Wellington. University of Otago Medical School, graduating in 1943« He served at Grey Hospital* Greymouth, until 1945 when' he took the post of surgeon with the Friends Ambulance Service in North China. He spent two years in this posli before going to Sully Hospitai in Wales. He was made! a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1953. Until he joined the staff of The Princess Margaret Hospital, he was in private practice in Christchurch.
