Mr Muldoon and university staff

Sir, — Mr Muldoon with his customary Gothic vivacity, let fly again at the academic. ■ world in Sydney recently (“Sydney Morning Herald,” February T), stating that many people in universities have never done a hard day’s work in their lives. As with so many of Mr Muldoon’s statements, there may be a small grain Of truth in what he said. I should like, nevertheless, to say that I, for one, am heartily sick of the acerbities of this honorary graduate of the University of Seoul. In 58 years of life I have had some opportunity to observe and occasionally meet, politicians. Some work very hard, especially with their mouths. Never have I seen in British Commonwealth politics anyone more able in this respect than Mr Muldoon. — Yours, etc ' • A. R CRAWFORD, Professor of geology. February 24, 1980.
