Three-leafed anthem

Sir, — In Mr Gandar’s haste (“The Press,” February 21) to tell what he considered a joke against the Irish, he obviously did not realise he was quietly having th® mickey taken out of him instead in Dublin when, he presented his credentials,

pl_s three versions of our country’s national song. As High Commissioner to the Court of St James in London, if he personally could not judge which version would be appropriate for that particular country surely it ‘ would have been more astute to ask New Zealanders familiar with that country for advice. It is not the host country’s duty to show us up in the very best light. It is his duty. No E.E.C. country, least of all the Republic of Ireland, is going to fall over backwards to make us appear any better than our present representatives are at the present time. When the Labour Party is the Government things will be done correctly, and with flair. — Yours, etc., NESSIE VIAL, February 24, 1980.
