More teachers for Greymouth
PA Wellington The rural education activity programme will be extended to cover Greymouth, • Kaitaia, and Taumarunul. the Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) said. They will receive additional teachers and advisers during 1980 under the scheme.
“Each region will benefit from developments in pre-school and guidance services, support for remedial and preventive programmes, as well as interschool and community liaison,” Mr Wellington said. Local management committees, representing district interests, would pro-
vide a forum in which individuals and local interests could consider the educational requirements and concerns of the district. School boards and education boards would control staffing and services but the day-to-day care of the programmes was to be the responsibility of the management committees, he said. The scheme, aimed at improving services in rural districts, also included Gisborne. Taihape, Blenheim and Alexandra and would be extended to Whakatane, Dannevirke and Nelson in 1981. and to Taupo. Masterton and Southland in 1982, Mr Wellington said.
