Tecorians to hold conference
New Zealand Tecorians will meet for a national three-day conference at Lincoln College from tomorrow, when 150 representatives from 48 clubs are expected to attend. Tecorian clubs, which have been set up to help men and women improve their communication skills, gain confidence in public speaking and to expand their general knowledge, are scattered throughout New Zealand. The non-profit-making organisation has no instructors; members learn by participation in speechmaking, constructive evaluation and in conducting meetings. The name<ecorian was
formed from the initial letters of the words training, education, communication (or confidence) and oracy (speaking and listening skills) at the fourth national conference of the organisation in 1976. Clubs aim to help young people in jobs which require verbal communication with the public, sales representatives, young mothers who need mental stimulus away from home life with young families, club officials and shy, inarticulate persons. The host of the 1979 national conference will be ihe Tai lapu Tecorian Club. * . i -
