Record , loss for Nurse Maude

A record deficit of $102,831 was suffered by the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association in the year to March 31. “This deficit is substantially higher than any previous year, and should it continue it would be a matter of considerable concern,” says the association's annual report. The district nursing service showed a loss of nearly $lll,OOO, and the association’s hospitals lost $1528 between them. The linen service and the association’s home aid service showed a surplus of $427 and $lBO9, respectively. Expenses for the year were more than sl.BM—up more than 20 per cent on 1977-78.

Revenue has been increased by raising hospital and home aid fees, and subsidies have also risen, the report says. The association’s various services are in increasing demand: 17.9 per cent more use being made of the district nurses, and 163 per cent of home aid. Occupancy of the association’s hospitals averages more than 96 per cent.

The report says the deficit was offset by bequests dur ing the year, which totalled more than $105,000.

“Without the generosity of these bequests the association would find it very difficult to maintain the high standard of care provided by all branches,’’ the report says.
