Rescue near Waikuku
A Waikuku man was res-, cued by his employer from the overturned hull of 'a stranded boat near the mdu,th of the Ashley River oh Sunday. Mr Brent Drummond, aged 21, had cut a mooring line on the $20,000 Ariki Moana to al low . the craft to swing free in the swift-flowing river. The current was so fierce that the boat and its conc-rete-block mooring were dragged down-river towards the open sea. The craft overturned and eventually beached on a sandbank with Mr Drummond still clinging to the upside-down hull. The stranded man was rescued about 30 minutes later by his employer, Mr J. Wilkie, of Waikuku, in a small runabout. The Ariki Moana was severely damaged.
