Brock wins Repco trial

NZPA Melbourne Peter Brock has won the Repco reliability trial in Australia, leading home a clean-sweep Holden victory. Brock (Holden Commodore) and his crew, Matt Phillip and Noel Richards, al! of Melbourne, lost only 3hr 39min 18s in the gruelling 20,00 km, two-week marathon. Brock, aged 34, said at the Melbourne Showground finish that it had been the hardest and toughest event he had ever entered. He beat his teammate, Barry Ferguson, by 13min 21s after a battle in which the lead see-sawed on Australia’s roughest roads for more than 10,000 km. International rally specialists Shekha Mehta and Ruanno Aaktonen, also in a works Holden Commodore' were third with a total loss] of 4hr 53min 395. Ninety-two of the 167 starters reached the finish, although only 13 crews completed the entire course.
