PA Wellington Live births registered ini the year ended June 30 totalled 51,987. compared withi 52,484 for 1978 and 55,1651 for 1977, said the Govern-' ment Statistician (Mr E. A. Harris) yesterday. Tne annual birth rate per 1000 mean population was 16.62 in the latest June year, I compared with 16.77 fori 1978 and 17.66 for 1977. For the quarter ended June. 1979, the equivalent annual birth rate per 1000 mean population was 16.47. compared with 15.81 and 16.81 for the ; June quarters of 1978 and 1977 respectively. Live births In the latest June quarter, were 491 more than for the 1 June quarter in 1978. There were 24,884 deaths registered in the year ended. June 30. compared with, 25,466 for 1978 and 35.996 for 1977. TTie annual death rate per 1000 mean popula- ! tion was 7.96 in the latest lune year, compared with 8.14 (or 1978 and 8.32 for 1977.
The equivalent annual death rate per 1000 mean population in the June quarter was 8.06, compared with 7.96 and 8.57 for the corresponding quarters in 1978 and 1977 respectively.
Natural increase — the excess of births over deaths — contributed 27,103 to the population gain in the year ended June 30. compared with 27,018 fn the previous June year and 29,169 for the year ended June, 1977.
