Fire award to woman
PA Auckland A control officer in the Auckland Central Fire Station, Mrs Anne Barry, has won a diploma from the Institution of Fire Engineers of Britain, the first woman to do so in New Zealand. Fire officers in Auckland know of only one other woman in the world to have achieved this — a woman in Northern Ireland. The diploma is gained after sitting three three-hour examinations, and aims to improve “the science and practice of fire engineering.”
