French Polynesia
Sir, — I agree with Mike Moore that our leader by his lack of moral and political courage in not supporting the independence of French Polynesia has created the impression that we are a cowardly nation. France is the last colonial power to refuse to grant independence to its island territories,
’ ,ich include Martinique and Guadeloupe surrounded by liberated British islands in the Lesser Antilles. I have spoken to many people in both areas and there is a definite upsurge in support for independence in both areas. The people of French Polynesia have an added urge for independence as
they no longer wish to be “a French nuclear testing giuund.” The leaders of the Mormon church have received their training at Hamilton ...-ci this, as well as the efforts of Air New Zealand staff to become involved in community affairs, has produced a close affinity between New Zealand and the islands population.
