Gymnastic titles

Competition is expected to be intense in the Canterbury : mnastic championships at vowles Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. This is because the national title meeting will also be held in Christchurch, next month, and the provincial competition will give many gymnasts a line on their prospects. The championships will start with compulsory exercises for junior boys at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Men’s and women’s voluntary exercises will be held on Sunday.

Although not all entries have yet been received, Greg Robertson, who competed for New Zealand at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, is certain to be among the favourites.

Among other prominent competitors will be Leanne Meclem, a bright candidate for national honours, Samantha Rowe, a national junior champion, and Lisa Aidhamland a grade three gymnast with second placings in the recent Wellington and Otago championships to her credit.
