Arrest of boat
PA Auckland The master of a South Korean fishing boat which was brought to Auckland yesterday after allegedly fishing inside New Zealand’s 200-mile zone, has not yet been charged. The Nampyung No. 5 was arrested by the frigate H.M.N.Z.S. Taranaki last week about 40 miles off Raoul Island, and was escorted to Auckland.
The area in which the Nampyung No. 5 was found is one for which no fishing licences or foreign quotas have been granted. After investigating the incident, the Auckland regional fisheries officer (Mr E. N. Macdonald), was awaiting instructions from the Ministry’s head office in Wellington. A decision on charges lis likely to be made today.
