Record year for mink
Sir, — I wish to express my abhorrence to the article (June 29), “Fashion wants a mink on every girl.” I feel that if people knew the facts about the way these innocent creatures are fanped and butchered for the sake of “fashion” no-one with any self-respect would be seen dead in a mink coat, — Yours, etc., (Mrs) DEIRDRE KING, Wellington. July 6, 1979. Sir, — “The Press,” June 29 had the headline, “Fashion wants mink on every girl.” No doubt most of your readers were as horrified as I was by this article. These days an educated woman would never wear a fur coat knowing, as she does, the terrible conditions in which these poor animals are kept until they are ready, for
slaughter and skinning. The educated woman also knows that it is not “fashion” that wants every girl in mink. It is money-grubbing humans in for the kill — in more ways than one. — Yours, (Mrs) JOAN DONNELLY, Plimmerton. July 4, 1979.
