Aust, links disrupted

Communications between Western Australia and rhe Australian east coast are in danger of being cut because of work bans by telecommunications employees, reports NZPA. Western Australia could be isolated if a microwave-link repeater station near the South Australian border fails. On the east coast, subscriber toll dialling, trunk calls, and international sub-scriber-dialling services are being seriously disrupted.

The work bans have been imposed in a pay dispute. The tolls supervisor at the international exchange in Auckland said last evening that there had been no unusual delays so far for people trying to telephone Australia from New Zealand. He had not been advised about possible problems and did not expect any.
