Tourists mediocre
NZPA Wollongong A seemingly disinterested British rugby league team, still reeling from their second successive test loss, scored an unimpressive 18-13 win over Illawarra at the Wollongong showground yesterday.
After leading 14-3 at half-time the tourists seemed content to “close up shop” and simply complete the second half formalities.
The liveliest action occurred midway through the second half when several players traded punches and grappled on the ground. But the referee stunned the crowd when he awarded the resulting penalty to Britain.
The tourists scored four firsthalf tries and Illawarra contributed three touch downs in the second half.
