Overseas loans
Sir, —• The Prime Minister possesses one very remarkable attribute in that he is consistently proficient in negotiating huge overseas loans. Whether the money so scrounged is of any durable benefit to the ordinary New Zealander remains ah open question. Although these hundreds of millions are begged in our name, it is considered rather naughtv to inquire into their actual use. The rumour that many pen-cilled-in budget items depend on the capacity of the outstretched cap during the current overseas trip of our Minister of Finance, cannot
be proved. However, all our debts, plus interest, must be repaid some time, and what could be easier than yet another overseas trip to borrow more millions for this very purpose? Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Government posse creeps stealthily in to move on the squatting superannuitants they corralled there in the big round-up back in ’75. —> Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY.
