Vietnamese refugees
Sir, — The Prime Minister should send a vigorous protest to the Vietnamese Government which is apparently pushing the ethnic Chinese people out. Surely we can do more for these unfortunate people. Certainly we have unemployed, but there is still plenty of food and money here which for the sake of common humanity we should be sharing with them. Why have we not sent food to Malaysia to help with feeding them? Who knows, with the spread of Russian communism New Zealanders may find themselves in a similar position at some future date. With a little unselfish belt tightening we can accommodate more. They make good citizens—too good to be shot or drowned.—Yours, etc., MYRA WRIGHT. June 16, 1979.
