N.Z. wins basketball
P 4 Aucklandf Auckland basketball fans xvere treated to a tightly contested international on Saturday evening xx’hen New Zealand beat a touring team from seven universities in South Dakota. The game, which saw some of the highlights of New Zealand basketball, finally went to the New Zealanders, 74-69. I The American team of 19 and 20-year-olds played an open, running game with a hustling man-to-man defence which too often had the New Zealand ball- ; handlers flustered.
It was a game characterised by the willingness of the Americans to run the ball and the highscoring average of the New Zealand team. The man of the match must certainly have been the New Zealand captain. Stan Hill, who silenced critics with a shooting exhibition that gave him 41 points. As has been the case for some vears. the national side's attack is highly dependent upon this man. Top-scorers in each team were: Stan Hill l4ti, John Hill 'l4) and for South Dakota Paul Park .14'.
