Hospital parking

Sir, — I comment on L. Westney’s letter on hospital parking (June 15). I suggest that this one requirement for hospital parking in North Hagley Park is reasonable. The precedent is not. I am sure few would enjoy a Hagley Park with all of the auto-related facilities proposed over the last 50 years. Blenheim Road was to cut straight through, Deans Avenue was to, and almost did. chop up open areas, and I am sure cost-conscious traffic engineers have proposed at other times all sorts of “only minor” incursions into our great park. Ironically, parks and recreation engineers might soon produce proposals to turn soon to be disused, parking lots into public gardens. — Yours, etc., M. TROWLAND. June 15, 1979.
