South Island separation
Sir, — “United we stand; divided we fall” comes to mind when one reads such excellent letters as A. G. Maher’s (June 13). Unlike your correspondent I was born in the north but have lived more than 30 years in the south of New Zealand. 1 too, am fond of Christchurch, Canterbury and the South Island but my love and concern for my country is such that I, once again, as I did in April (by your column) plead that we who are proud to be called New Zealanders, regardless of colour, race, and creed help keep our country, not as separate islands and islanders but united — one New Zealand. — Yours, etc., .MARGARET MANNING. June 13, 1979.
