P.M. and the Queen
Sir, — I find distasteful our Prime Minister’s scaremongering while in London regarding the personal safety of the Queen. Does Mr Muldoon believe that the British establishment, after centuries of tradition and service, requires advice from him as to how the Monarch should be protected? It is, I feel, significant that Mr Muldoon alone of all the British Commonwealth Prime Ministers has seen fit to give publicity to this situation. I recall that in 1975 our present Prime Minister is on record as saying, “There is no such thing as bad publicity: there is only publicity or no publicity”. I wonder, though, what Mr Muldoon’s reaction is to the recent publicity from an influential group of German bankers which is critical of New Zealand’s economic management. — Yours, etc., R. L. PLUCK. June 14, 1979.
