Robbery was part of gang test
PA Auckland Two girls, aged 17, said to have committed robbery, as part of a Black Power gang initiation, have been sentenced in the Supreme Court at Auckland. Karen Gabriel Newband and Kaye Elizabeth Thomasen, of Papakura, previously pleaded guilty to charges of committing aggravated robbery at Pukekohe on April 6. Mr Justice Thorp sentenced Thomasen to Borstal training and Newband to three months imprisonment to be followed by 18 months probation.
His Honour said it was apparent the robbery was committed as part of a Black Power ganginitiation ceremony.
