PA Wellington When Parliament sat at 9 yesterday the Leader of the House (Mr Thomson) outlined business planned for next week. •The Minister of Defence (Mr Gill) tabled the 1978 While Paper on Defence, and the Deputy Minister of Finance (Mr Templeton) tabled the report and accounts of the Government Stores Insurance Fund. Members tabled eight notices of motion and Ministers answered 15 questions. The Pesticides, Restricted Drugs Amendment, and Toxic Substances bills were all reported back from the Social Services Select Committee. The House debated the Public Expenditure Committee’s interim report. The Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill (No. 2) was given a third reading, and the Maori Trustee Amendment Bill was put through its committee stages. Debate on the second reading of the Coal Mines Bill was interrupted when the House paid tribute to Mr A. H. Free, who retired yesterday after serving as a Parliamentary messenger since April, 1953. He has been the Speaker's- messenger for the last 21 years. The House rose at 1 p.m.
