Ashburton strike vote
Ashburton drivers yesterday rejected a proposal for a 72-hour strike by Canterbury drivers. A majority of about 220 drivers at yesterday’s meeting voted against the strike, which has been set to follow a national 48hour strike by drivers, but they will still have to stop work if a majority of all drivers in Canterbury decide on strike action. The meeting also voted against giving the Drivers’ Union executive the power to act in negotiations without consulting members.
