Oil spill in Heathcote
Another oil spill in the Heathcote River was being investigated by Christchurch Drainage Board staff last evening.
The spill, described by the assistant trade waste inspector (Mr J. Adams) as “not severe,” was reported at 5.30 p.m. It spread from Chapmans Road to the Garlands Road bridge. It was difficult to find the source of the spill because it occurred within the tidal reach of the river, said Mr Adams. If yesterday’s search was unsuccessful, investigations would continue today.
