PA ' Wellington April was not a good month for New Zealand’s external trade.

Preliminary trade figures released by the Department of Statistics yesterday show an excess of exports over imports of $47,400,000 in April. However, the position a year earlier showed an excess of exports over imports of well over double this amount — $101,700,000. The figures reflect the “visible” balance of trade and do not take into account the effect of the “invisibles” ■(freight, insurance, interest) the inclusion of which would result in a very substantial balance of trade deficit.
