SMITHFIELD MARKET
The United Kingdom meat market was rather mixed last week, with demand varying from region to region, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board repons in its weekly market survey. However, the demand for New Zealand lamb has remained steady with prices firming slightly in the lighter grades. Prices for New Zealand lamb sold on Smithfield Market, with the variation on the previous week, were:— Price Var’n P P per lb per lb PL . . 52.0-53.0 - 0.25 PM .. 51.0-52.0 n.c. MANUFACTURING BEEF After the sudden fall in
! prices the U.S. imported beef 'market finned again last week, with New Zealand cow-beef selling at an average of 130 U.S. cents per lb C.I.F. There had not been any large volume trading but supplies are expected to be lower in the coming weeks than recently, and prices are expected to firm. MUTTON About 1000 tonnes of carcase mutton was sold to Japan last week at 73.25 U.S. cents per lb. c and f Japan, for June and July shipment. New Zealand exporters have been quoting 73.5 to 74 U.S cents for June, July and August shipment.
