First stakes
PA Wellington The Alchimedes stallion, Umteen, was credited with his first stakes winner in Perth on Saturday.
The three-year-old filly. Gay Affair, won the Angus Paterson Stakes ($10,000) over 1800 m by five lengths in a record time for the race. Gay Affair, out of the stakeswinning mare Dinna Tell, was winning for the fifth time. Umteen, which stands at Gordon Mitchell’s Santa Rose Stud at Palmerston North, now has two crops of racing age. The stallion began his stud career in 1974 in Western Australia and returned to New Zealand in 1977.
