Summit seats
Sir. — I seek further information about the summit seats (“The Press,” March 24). The plan, as conceived about the end of 1949 by the women’s branch of the Christchurch Citizens Association, called for six seats, the two at the summit commemorating Emily Rose Jacobs and Jane Deans. Four more were to be placed on the Bridle Path itself and named for the first four ships. The seats are there, but something seems to have happened to their naming. On the Lyttelton side are “Cressy" and “Randolf,” and on the Heathcote side “Cressy” again and another which has been damaged and the name lost. Perhaps someone who was on that original committee may be able to enlighten me.— Yours, etc..
ROSEMARY BRITTEN. March 26. 1979.
